I am in Boston.
I’m here for a journalism conference, and while I’ve been excited to visit one of the great American cities, I’ve also been a little apprehensive about returning to the scene of the Vancouver Canucks’ slaughter. How would it feel to see Boston Bruins jerseys in the streets? How would it feel to see “Home of the Stanley Cup Champions” banners hanging in windows. Would a visit to this city just peel off those scabs of June?
I’ve been here two days now. I have not seen a Boston Bruins jersey in the street. I have not seen a “Home of the Stanley Cup Champions” banner in a window. All I have seen is a great American city that, I’ve been told, has a base of loyal hockey fans. Somewhere.
This is almost worse. It should have been us.
